allbingo hosts a new fest each month. We just did Superhero Bingo in May; you can play any card at any time if you want to make one for that. July I'll be running Games & Entertainment; I checked my list of prompts and the Hobbit along with several of your other fandoms are on there in various formats.

I'm a Hobbit fan too. My mother read me the book when I was four.

There are tons of fanfic communities here. See fandomcalendar, followfriday, and dw_community_promo to find some that you'll enjoy. You can also search your fandoms on the Interests page.

A handful of roleplaying communities exist, most of them tied to a specific fandom. Consider gaming and i_love_games for general gamer talk.

Yeah, I'm an oldschool Tolkien fan, I liked hobbits before liking hobbits was "cool." :D

You can get the plain book for next to nothing at a used book store. But now there are illustrated and/or annotated editions that are really awesome, so if you're a visual person, look for those. The images can make great inspiration for fanfic.
