My name is John and I'm joining from Facebook just for something new, which explains why I'm using my real name but I may change it to the 44th Doctor or something like that as soon as I figure out how. My main fandoms include Doctor Who, the MCU, the DCEU, the Arrowverse, Marvel and DC comics, Battlestar Galactica, The Foundation Trilogy, Dune, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, Huriki Murikami and lots of stuff I can't think of right now. I'm 48 years old and a father of a 16 year old. Learning how to cook new things is my main hobby right now. I live in Lakeland, Florida. And I'm a widower. That's all I can think of right now.

The only way to change names here is to pay $15 for a rename token, just so you know. You may want to make a fandom name separate from this account instead.

Hello John! I'd be happy to give you an add. :) I somehow missed the Doctor Who boat, save for watching ancient black and white airings on a tiny television in my parents' basement back in Maine during the winter by the woodstove. (It's possible the television itself was a b&w unit, and the episodes were in color and I never would've known.) From speculation with another Whoist, it was likely the second or third Doctor.

I'm on board with Marvel (various), Battlestar Galactica (original and new), Dune, Hitchhiker's Guide, and Haruki Murakami (wrote something of a lengthy analysis of two of his works a couple years back).

About me: almost always up for discussing a shared interest, or indeed something entirely new. I've been a haunt of the internet since I was way too small to be on it, but hardware nerdery gets a person into all sorts of business. I made a home-rig network when I was 9 from literal junk, largely to spite my mother, and remember the days of bulletins vs. forums, though a lot of that transition took place in the first two years I engaged with it.

Still here, definitely prefer the relative anonymity of Dreamwidth to mediums such as Facebook, though I've got one all the same.

Welcome! :)

I don't think you'd need to change your username unless you're exceedingly disinterested in having anyone you know potentially stumble across your presence here. I know Facebook allows for some filtering, certain things curated for certain audiences, but Dreamwidth has more tools in that area. It's easy to have public entries, access-only entries (ones where only people you've granted access may view), as well as private entries (only you may view). Most of my engagement with fandom is likely to be public, while more personal entries/anything mentioning work beyond calling it 'work' will likely be set to access-only.

To date, I've been neither found nor bothered by my personal acquaintances or professional life. :)

That said, some info:

Doctor Who is bloody amazing, as is Battlestar Galactica, and omg, all the other stuff, too!

I used to read so much sci-fi!

Adding you.

PS. I've got a kid that's 17. Life is good.
