I keep this blog 99.9% fannish with a side of cats or just basic life stuff, but never ever politics or religion. I prefer to keep those things personal and might only discuss them with you if we are very close.

I'm glad you're into One Piece too! <3 ZoSan is really amusing and interesting! I love bickering pairs but also that level of respect they have unspoken in there... somewhere. I mean, even if they grumble to hell and back, they're still nakama.

My favorite character would have to be Dewey I think, but I love Ririka herself too! I haven't done fic or art (though I think I doodled a bit at some point?) but now I feel like I might at some point!

Agreed about ZoSan! I'm actually usually not a big fan of bickering couples but Zoro and Sanji are something special. I remember reading a bunch of ZoSan doujinshi back in the days that were just... completely fantastic with how they wrote their relationship, just so true to their personalities and the mood of One Piece. That's actually what got me into the ship in the first place, I think?

My favorite Tales would be the first one, Phantasia! I haven't actually played many of them since I haven't had the right consoles for most of them, haha. I love Abyss and Symphonia 2 a lot, too, and I'm currently playing through Symphonia!

*High five* He is my favorite, too! :D I tended to finish more art of Ririka for some reason but I have doodles somewhere of Dewey. I cosplayed him before I could really sew all that well but one day I'd like to try again. Or if I had a Dewey, I'd go as someone else!

I do like bickering/tsundere couples, but usually want some secondary quality to them and ZoSan is probably the most unique I've come across! And what's really strange is the consistency the fandom seems to have for the most part in their characterization, both in Japan and in the West! I've seen some stuff that makes me side eye if it's IC or not, but it's like a blip and I'm sure it's making those people happy. I'm just so happy there's a lot of content for it in general!

Phatasia! <3 I was not able to beat the GBA version. I did like it, though, especially Arche. The others you listed are great, too! Luke, Ion & Jade are my favorite characters from Abyss, and hmm... Wow, you played Symphonia 2 first? Decus and Brute are my favorites from that, lol. I really like Lloyd, though.

*Dewey fan high five* How'd you discover the show, anyway? I happened to come across the opening theme on Youtube while watching random anime openings and thought it was such a good song I had to watch it.

Yeah, ZoSan fanfics and such do seem pretty dang high-quality on average, or so I seem to remember it. I should try and read some again.

The GBA version is the only one I've beaten, haha! I should really play the PSX version one day, though. I could't really pick a favorite from the Phantasia cast, since I love all of them. In Abyss, Luke and Asch are my favorites, and Jade's good too. Ion I wasn't really into until I read a fantastic fic series that changed my whole view on him. (Bladework by starcrossedsky on AO3, in case you haven't seen it!)

Yeah, I did technically play a bit of Symphonia 1 as a kid at a friend's place, but I never had a Gamecube myself so I just spoiled myself on the rest of the game and read all the fanfics I could find instead, haha. Then Symphonia 2 came out and I had a Wii so I figured I was fully prepared for it. Anyway I love Emil! Also Aster and Richter. Not really a fan of Decus and Brute tbh, I thought they had potential to be so much more interesting than what the game gave us. Although I guess you could say that about a lot of things in the game, but that's what AU's are for! Or maybe that's just me. maybe i'm the only one with a huge symphonia 2 au that rewrites all of it haha

But yeah I like Lloyd too! I haven't gotten to Zelos in Symphonia yet but he's a fave too. I'm also loving Colette and Kratos a lot!

OMFG I thought I replied to this. I actually think I was leaving a half-written reply on my work computer, but the power went out after I left friday! RIP. OTL

I discovered the show on some fansubs a friend gave me! It's hard to entirely remember, but I know I definitely had them on tape first! Then I got a better set directly from the distributor, and those are in storage! I need some digital copies! I was starting to download it on an old computer... who knows what I did with that attempt. ;; BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH FOR HOW RETRO IT IS! It was definitely so unique! The music is catchy and I think I have a remix of it somewhere I'll try to find for you!

I appreciate that fandom seems to have a hivemind understanding of ZoSan. When I'm fully caught up I will dive into it with abandon but for now... if I spoil myself any more than I already have, I am going to cry.

I am weirdly attached to the villains in Symphonia 2 and perhaps just their concepts, even if the potential they had was never fully used the way it could have been. The first time I saw the game I got PISSED at how different Lloyd was, so until I saw a complete playthrough, it felt off to me and I didn't like anyone at all! On a second watch, which was fairly recent, that hangup was still there and so I latched onto the villians, and then I started to understand what was really going on, but I was kind of frustrated with the main cast until the end and everything became apparent what was going on. So it's really mixed feelings on my part. I might just have severe nostalgia for the first game, lol! I didn't even like Alice until near the end, and started feeling sorry for her. I ended up joining a cosplay group as Brute and have fond memories of being a 'terrible awful parent'.

I have friends who can't stand Zelos so you could go either way when you finally get to him, but I hope you like him! He's... complicated and I don't mind the flirty characters.

If you can find that remix I'd love to hear it! Yeah, old-school anime are something special. After finishing Ririka, I started looking for other obscure older magical girl anime to try and fill that Ririka-shaped hole in my life. Stuff like Magical Angel Creamy Mami and Akazukin Chacha are pretty good too, in very different ways! But I wish I could read the Ririka manga too. I've found one chapter in english and it seems like that's all there is on the internet...

You're around the part where the crew all got separated, right? If I happen to find fics set before that, I'll be sure to drop you a link.

Maybe I was lucky to not have played Symphonia first, so none of that bothered me! I mean, I knew what Lloyd was supposed to be like, but I just figured there was a reason why he acted strange in 2 and it'd be explained later. Anyway, I'm the type that doesn't really ever care for the villain characters, unless they're really interesting. I feel like both Brute and Decus could've been more interesting if that whole "touching a Centurion's core corrupts you" plot point just didn't exist and both of them did what they did of their own free will and motivations. That, and if the plot point with Emil wanting to avenge his parents wasn't abandoned basically immediately after he found out it was Decus... He could've been a fantastic arch-enemy to Emil if he wasn't just played as a comic relief and sympathetic villain. Alice was a pretty great character the whole way through, though. Probably my favorite of the villains, unless you count Richter (which I don't, really, even though he is the final boss?)

Oh, I'm sure I'll like Zelos! I liked him in Symphonia 2, after all! And I'm pretty much 90% spoiled on Symphonia, so I know Zelos' backstory and everything and I can't wait to see it all happen!

Well I did just figure out how to PM somebody so maybe I'll take you up on that sometime!

There's no scans online? Damn. I have a few volumes in storage. When I go again I'll try to remember to get them and scan them. I have a lot of the Tokimeki Tonight manga that was referenced in it, too.

I used to run a community (that was deader than Queen Earth, but I could have been more active myself) called darkjoker, but maybe I should try to revive it here and at least just post what resources I have.

Man, I guess it was the corruption from the cores that I found interesting. But they would definitely have expanded in a different direction character-wise if it had been just the decisions they made. You're right though that they didn't do at all what they could have with them. In the end I mostly felt bad for all the things that went wrong for everyone, like there's a heck of a lot of just straight up tragedy in that game. If I ever have the time to I might try to play it myself instead of watching someone else do it.

AND I WOULD TOTALLY LOVE FIC RECS FOR ONE PIECE! Thank you! Yeah, I'm on the episodes that focus on where each character ended up!

If you can find the scans that'd be great! Oh man, I had no idea there was that much Ririka content out there. Speaking of the manga, when I read the one chapter I found I was surprised how much younger Kanou was. I wonder why the anime aged him up? I feel like I would've liked him a lot more if he was presented the way he was in the manga, instead of the older, kind of secretive and creepy-seeming guy he was at the start of the anime!

I figure the core corruption could've been interesting, but my issue with it is that I feel like I don't have enough of a handle on what the characters affected by it are without it. If the game had, say, a character from the first game corrupted by the cores, that might've made it more, well, interesting. I think at some point of the game somebody suggested Lloyd might be corrupted, which could've also been a fun way for the story to go. But yeah, that's a good point about the game: a lot of tragedy, mostly caused by understandable but bad decisions by a lot of people.

I'll try and find some! I don't read fanfic that often, though, and I have no idea where I found the ones I read back then, so don't hold your breath or anything.

I just realized I still have access to my yahoo account that the mailing lists were on, too. There's some content on there - just text translations, so I'm going to pull all that I can and when I get my manga, I'll make scans. I think that maybe if I find the time, I can put them all together! It won't be until the new year, though. I'm swamped right now, lol.

Right? Of course, Lloyd does have a core for the entire game, but for convenient reasons he happens to be immune to the corruption. In all my fics and AUs I tend to just ignore the corruption thing and make the Centurion Lumen an actual character who sides with him instead.
