Name: Rascal
Pronouns: He/Him
Age Group: I'm in my early 30s - please only add me if you're 20 or older!
Country: USA
Subscription/Access Policy: Very general fandom posts are public, whereas things that are access only are probably more along the lines of "mini-essay pondering a bigger subject through the lens of fandom" or a fanwork idea I'm not quite sure about yet, but what to share to a degree.
What I chat about: Fandom and hobbies are probably what I'll most frequently chat about, but I also love getting analytical and waxing philosophical about life - often through looking at fandom things. I find it fun, and my shared reflections tend to be more neutral-to-positive. When it comes to fandom specifics, I love writing fanfic and AUs, and exploring ideas for those, and a character deep-dive is one of my favorite things! I also just like sharing the enthusiasm I have for my favorite things, fandom or otherwise.
I'm looking to connect with people who: Want to talk and share their enthusiasm, too! I'm a chatterbox who really wants to extend his fannish social circle - I'm a househusband who sometimes ends up with a lot of free time and I'd love to spend more of it engaging in fun talk! I'm also looking to connect with people who are open-minded and accepting, and not interested in anti culture or other fandom discourse.
Main Fandoms: Pokemon has been my forever fandom, ever since Pokemania hit the States. I kind of fell off in the GBA/early DS era (Emerald and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, specifically) but got back into it in a big way since and have never left. I'm mainly into the games, but I have a lot of fondness for the early seasons of the anime, and I've really been enjoying the new Pokemon Horizons series? I'm really behind on it, though. My other main fandoms are Disney Duck canons - a lot of 'em, but I'm especially fond of the 2017 DuckTales reboot, Darkwing Duck, and the various comics - and Fraggle Rock, which I discovered well after its time but I love - and now it has a reboot, too, and I also love that!
Other Fandoms: Delicious in Dungeon, In Stars and Time, Steven Universe, Dimension 20's Fantasy High, The Muppets, Sonic the Hedgehog (games, the movies, and the IDW comics - though I'm super behind on the comics), Zeddy Zi's Ramshackle, Lilo & Stitch, Tangled, Ratatouille, and a lot of other animated movies... Oh! And Phineas and Ferb is back and ngl, I'm kinda losing my mind over that. Such a fun show, I love its themes of creativity
What I create for Fandom: Fanfic! And occasionally icons, but mostly fic. I've really been getting back into it lately.
Other Hobbies: Reading, bracelet weaving, Dungeons & Dragons... I'm starting to get into art and I'm trying to get into cooking as more a hobby than housework. I also love collecting! Currently, I collect bookmarks and merch of Meowth from Pokemon.

Date: 2025-06-09 02:14 pm (UTC)I love Ratatouille... and a lot of other animated movies, but probably mostly older ones. One of my HS classmates is a Disney animator, so I try to watch movies he's worked on, like The Lion King, Frozen I & II, Moana (I've seen the first, not the second), and others. But I also enjoy catching the really old Disney films, even if they aren't the best, they're still kind of fun to watch now and then. The Emperor's New Groove is another favorite!
I've bought a ton of cookbooks, but don't use them much because I live alone and it's not easy cooking for one person. I make soup and bread from scratch, and a common meal is rice or couscous with vegetables. However, I do occasionally try other recipes for whenever my brothers visit, so I can feed them something that tastes good (and is hopefully also healthy). My cooking tastes these days lean toward healthy, and preferably less processed stuff. I'm not a vegetarian, but I would often choose a vegetarian meal over meat.

Date: 2025-06-09 02:27 pm (UTC)I'm the exact same way: Not a vegetarian, but often prefer vegetarian meals to meat. For me, it's largely a texture thing, but I also love the versatility vegetarian meals offer. I've been trying to go low with cholesterol lately, and it's good for what I need there, too. Making bread or any other baking intimidates me a lot, I'll be honest! But I'm a big fan of soup, and making that can be so fun to me.
But haha, what is it about coobooks where it's so appealing to own them even when there's not a ton of use for them? My spouse and I also own a lot of cookbooks, but don't use them all that often - for us, it's usually a matter of budget; it just isn't practical to buy things for one recipe if we aren't sure how else to use it! So we fall back on a lot of staples. My favorite to make is rice, tofu, and veggie stir-fry... But I never make it quite the same way twice, in terms of what veggies I use and seasonings.

Date: 2025-06-09 03:02 pm (UTC)Frozen is one of the few series where I like the second one better than the first. My HS classmate once posted a photo of himself with the ocean horse on his computer in the background, so I think he at least worked on it (maybe did that whole sequence?). I know horses. I can definitely say, whoever did the animation on that ocean horse KNOWS horses. So many little subtle actions were included that are often missed. I love watching the bits with that horse in it. Really beautiful animation work, very well done.
My issue with cookbooks is, I'm not big on dessert, and most of the books always have a section of desserts. I have allergies to some fish, I can eat salmon, but I really don't like the taste, flavor, or texture. I only eat it sometimes because it's 'healthy.' And I don't in general eat much meat. And there you go. Most cookbooks include a lot of fish and other meat. This is why these days, I do tend to buy "vegetarian" cookbooks. I bought a breadmaker despite people warning me that many people get those and use them 2-3 times and that's it. I still use mine. So, I just put a few ingredients in the pan, set the machine and walk away. And about 3 hours or so later, it beeps, and voila, I have fresh bread! The thing is, the white bread must be eaten within 2 days. The brown bread may last an additional day or two. I just have to make small loaves and eat a lot. They say the bread can be frozen, but I've never been a fan of frozen bread. To me, the ice crystals change the texture, and it's not as good. One of my cookbooks is only bread machine recipes. I've found two recipes I love!

Date: 2025-06-09 03:30 pm (UTC)Agreed! I think the original movie did a good job setting up, but the sequel is where it feels like we really get into things. And ohh my gosh, yes the Nokk! That's awesome. I love the scene of Elsa teaming it, I remember when that was shown as a preview to promote the movie on Good Morning America or something. I was instantly entranced, everything about that scene is stunning!
Oh yeah, that definitely makes sense - really limits the use you get out of 'em! On the other hand, I love hearing how much use you get out of the breadmaker - I'd never given them much thought! (And, to be fair, my spouse and I already have a pretty big list of kitchen appliances we'd love to own once we're in a place with room for it, haha.) But it sounds like - correct me if I'm wrong - you can make things besides plain bread in it? Or are they all different bread recipes in that cookbook? I think that's still very cool! Whatever the case, any kitchen appliance you can have a full cookbook's worth of recipes for is the kind of thing I like!

Date: 2025-06-09 08:42 pm (UTC)The recipe book has dozens of bread recipes for different breads, and chapters for spice breads, cheese breads, vegetable breads, and a variety of others. I've been sticking to my two favorites which are the 100% Wheat (brown) bread and the Crusty White Bread. The latter, you cannot bag up or it goes soft. I just put a piece of Saran Wrap on the cut side, and stand it up on its end with that on the bottom, and the crust stays nice. But yeah, I may give some others a try eventually. And again, it would be easier if I had more people eating it... LOL
