Hello all!
Sep. 21st, 2012 11:26 amDidn't know about this addme community until today, so thought I'd give it a go.
Name: Robby
Age: 26
Country: American citizen living in Japan
Subscription/Access Policy: My journal is mostly unlocked and open for anyone to read, but I do post locked entries as well. I'm open to making friends with just about anyone, but I will generally only give access and subscribe to those that drop me a comment first. If you add me without a comment I'll assume you just want to read the public entries, which is totally cool if that's what you want to do, just be aware I most likely won't be adding you back.
Main Fandoms: Lately? Mother series, Xenoblade, Nintendo-y things
Other Fandoms: I dunno. In general you might say I am a big fan of 90s Japan, with some pre-90s and more modern stuff mixed in. This includes everything from comics, anime, music, the occasional drama, and so on.
Fannish Interests: ...I like to look at fanart sometimes?
OTPs and Ships: Don't really ship specific couples, per say, but when I see two cute boys loving on each other I am not known to complain. I also love some canon couples, though I don't necessary ship them in the fannish sense.
Favourite Movies: Megane, Studio Ghibli, Best in Show, Wolf Children, Pixar.
TV Shows: 30 Rock! Also maybe Gilmore Girls, 6 Feet Under and the like.
Books: Ursula K LeGuin, Haruki Murakami, various fantasy and fiction. Also, more recently becoming interested in non-fiction involving minimalism, the environment, the digital/information age, and consumer society (mostly criticisms for the last two).
Music: Mostly a mix of western and Japanese stuff, all with varying levels of musical credibility. Used to be a KPOP type person but not so much anymore. Will always be fond of Big Bang though.
Games: SNES era junk, Xenoblade, Grandia (I and II), Skies of Arcadia, the Mother(/Earthbound) series, FFIX, etc etc.
Comics/Anime/Misc: Takahashi Rumiko (mostly Ranma, Maison Ikkoku and the Mermaid stories), Cowboy Bebop, One Piece, Tenchi, Yotsubato!, PLANETES, Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin. Lots of 90s stuff. I dunno. I'm terrible at these lists.
Other Info: As stated above I live and work in Japan. I've been here for just under 3 years and naturally I talk about life in Japan quite often. It's not always terribly exciting. Sometimes I word vomit because I don't always have the chance to talk to things out with other native English speakers in real life when I need to.
Anyway, if you're willing to put up with me...let's be friends! :D

Date: 2012-09-21 03:43 pm (UTC)It's so cool you like Six feet under, nintendo-y things, mother and Tenchi! (which tenchi series is your favorite). Hell I really like 90s!Japan too, or well, 90s everything.
Also my favorite Final Fantasies are V, VI, VII and XIII.

Date: 2012-09-21 11:53 pm (UTC)My favorite Tenchi series is Universe. It was aired unedited on a local PBS station a year or two before it ended up on Cartoon Network, so that's mostly what I watched. I also love the original OVAs and movies, too. Still haven't managed to see anything past the first couple of Tenchi in Tokyo episodes, though. Same with the 3rd OVA.
I love FFVI! It's in my top 10 games (maybe even top 5) despite the fact I've still never gotten around to finishing it...haha.

Date: 2012-09-22 12:59 am (UTC)Tokyo is a hit or miss, I tend to "tollerate" it. Like, I can find reasons to watch it when im SUPER bored but usually there is something way better to watch over it. I like Universe a lot too, all that adventure in it.
I've seen the uncut versions of the ova and universe dubbed as well and the japanese versions. I like both sets. (JP has bonuses such as character songs. Ryoko has a great singing voice aaa)
You got a 3ds dude? Ever played Kid Icarus? It's likely to be right up your alley.
Oh forgot to mention that I'm seen as one of the biggest Mother 3 nerds ever lol

Date: 2012-09-22 01:09 am (UTC)I do have a 3DS! And Kid Icarus is the game that convinced me to buy it, actually. Haha. The script in that game is nuts, huh? I have a Japanese 3DS and hence the Japanese version of the game so I can't understand it all, but what I can is a riot.

Like Fullmetal alchemist (2003), Trigun, Tenchi, Cowboy bebop, Fooly Cooly, to name a few. Oh yeah anime rec... http://www.youtube.com/user/ZeroJetterz?feature=CBAQwRs%3D
this is also a heart tending riot. Way back it used to be a joke with japanese fans to crossover it with mother 3. That's why it dawned on me. (Also who doesn't like Bomberman.)

Date: 2012-09-21 03:52 pm (UTC)It's awesome to find another MOTHER fan on DW. We also share interests in Nintendo-y things, Pixar, and Murakami (who I've been meaning to read more from for a while now)!

Date: 2012-09-22 01:43 am (UTC)Yeah, the circumstances under which I came into contact with the Mother series were pretty similar to yours. I played Mother 3 earlier this year, was eviscerated by it, and just as immediately fell in love. I'm playing through Mother 2 at a really slow pace, after which I might tackle Mother....
