Name: Kalaryx
Country: United Kingdom
Main Fandoms: Final Fantasy X and VII (all incarnations) mainly, XIII and XII on occasion. Legacy of Kain, Transformers (Bayverse, Prime, G1, DW and IDW), Warhammer 40K, Iain M Banks' Culture series, Gundam SEED & Destiny.
Other Fandoms: Devil May Cry, Trinity Blood, RahXephon, Kingdom Hearts, Naruto, Lovecraft.
Fannish Interests: I write fanfic, I'll occasionally make icons too. I like meta and talking about episodes and characters.
OTPs and Ships: I like rare pairings as much as I like the main pairings, but here's a few I'll always read about if they come up:
Zack/Sephiroth, Zack/Sephiroth/Angeal, Aerith/Cloud, Cid/Vincent, Rude/Reno.
Optimus/Megatron, Prowl/Jazz.
Janos/Sarafan Raziel, Kain/Umah.
Dearka/Yzak, Kira/Lacus.
Kakuzu/Hidan, Deidara/Sasori, Itachi/Kisame.
Braska/Jecht/Auron, Auron/Lulu.
Mostly I just like groups of characters, but I have a particular interest in the gestalts and cityformers from Transformers. Aerialbots, Predacons and Combaticons in particular. I enjoy exploring the bay guys, but I love a hero.
I'm very much a Black Templar and Blood Ravens fan for Warhammer 40k, and I love anything by Dan Abnett and Aaron Dembski-Bowden.
Favourite Movies: Equilibrium, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter movies ('fraid I never really read the books), Twilight Samurai, Hellboy, X-Men, Pulp Fiction, 13th Warrior, Lady in the Water, The Village, Kung Fu Panda, Event Horizon, Aliens Vs Predator, Predator, Star Trek, Star Wars, the new Sherlock films, Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone, The Orphanage.
TV Shows: The Mentalist, Look Around You!, Buffy, Star Trek (all incarnations though the original series is my favourite), The Wire, Supernatural.
Books/Authors: The Culture series by Iain M Banks, Alastair Reynolds, Tery Pratchett, Dan Abnett, Nick Kyme, Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Gav Thorpe, Haruki Murakami, Yukio Mishima, C. J. Cherryh, C.S. Friedman, Stephen Donaldson, Anne Kelleher, Kate Griffin, Michael Moorcock's Elric books, Anne Rice, China Mieville, H. P. Lovecraft.
Music: I like an awful lot of different music, from black metal such as Cradle of Filth, to poppy stuff like Leona Lewis. And pretty much everything in between. VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Code 64, You Me at Six, Blink-182, AFI, In Flames, Pendulum, Peter Gabriel, Two Steps from Hell, Noisia, Skrillex, The Low Anthem, many others! I also love soundtrack music, so anything by John Powell, Hanz Zimmer and Steve Jablonsky goes straight on my iPod.
Games: Legacy of Kain, Final Fantasy VII, X, X-2, XII, XIII, Dawn of War (all incarnations), Space Marine, Devil May Cry, Bioshock, Deus Ex. I play more than I can actually remember, but those are the ones that spring to mind.
Comics/Anime/Misc: Black Butler, Chevalier D'Eon, Gundam SEED & Destiny, Ghost Hound, RahXephon, Noien and currently just watching Tiger & Bunny.
Other Info: I love sci-fi, robots, AI and anything to do with post-humanism. Chatting about new books, films and games too. I read a lot and I try to cover 50 books each year which I'll then talk about. If you want to see what I read and how I react to them my 50 in 2010 and 50 in 2011 tags will tell you what type of things I love and don't love.
I also adore ghost stories and creepy things, hence the love of Lovecraft. I'm also very much into Space Marines and giant robots these days. In my journal I tend to post book reviews, links to things that amuse me, music recs and occasional bits about my RL. I also link to my fic. I like to comment and I like to chat with new people.
In terms of politics I'm very left wing, I work in the IT industry and I love my cat. :)

Date: 2012-01-16 06:48 am (UTC)Legacy of Kain, as well! People seem to have forgotten entirely about that series...probably because they haven't released a new game for YEARS now. The world needs more Kain; between him and Alucard in Hellsing I can't decide who has the better accent. xD

Date: 2012-01-17 08:38 pm (UTC)And I wish they'd release more LoK games, I really do. There's so many questions left to play with! Plus I need some more arrogant Kain making the world dance to his tune. ;3

Also, what did you make of Tiger & Bunny? I watched at Christmas in the space of four days. xD
Given the stream of bad games in good series recently, I'm hesitant to wish for a new LoK game when it could potentially wreck the whole thing. But then, if Castlevania can do it, LoK can. The world needs more insufferably arrogant Kain <3

Date: 2012-01-17 10:18 pm (UTC)I haven't finished Tiger&Bunny yet, I'm due to watch ep 12 next, been watching it on anime-on-demand.com. So far I've enjoyed it enough to sit down and breeze through the first 11 eps and mark it down as one of my current favs. I don't know quite where it's going to end up and I really, really hope the ending's not going to fall flat. I find a lot of anime is really good while the series itself is ongoing, but then it kinda fails to deliver at the end? Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it while it's on, but it's nice when they have a strong ending too.
Got any other recs for anime I should be looking to put in the queue?
That's true! I'm certain Amy Hennig's left now too, so someone else would be at the helm again which might also take away from it a bit. Then again! There's some excellent stuff coming out right now so it can be done. :D

Date: 2012-01-17 10:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I found the outtakes on YT as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp8ohelYOY8 (same user uploaded the other ones as well)
I love the last ones in that video. xD
My only complaint of T & B was that it needed more Lunatic...but I always cheer for the villains in anime, so I would say that. But I'll say no more. xD
Yeah, I know what you mean; sometimes anime could end better. Death Note is a fantastic example of this, having perhaps the worst ending I've ever seen in an anime, despite having an absolutely fantastic plot.
Hmmm...I'd recommend Steins;Gate, that has an absolutely fantastic story to it, and its quite entertaining as well. It's initially a bit slow to warm up, but it comes together really well at the end. Considering the plot revolves around time travel, they handle it quite well. If you've not seen it, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (in sub, not dub...the dub kills the drama bit) is a good choice as well. Lots of drama, a fairly heartwarming story and, mostly importantly, universe-sized explosions. xD
For a third (I could go on, but I'll pick the first three that come to mind when I think of anime with a good story) you might want to try Princess Tutu. That entire anime is just enchanting. It starts off a little shallow, but the characters undergo quite a lot of development, and the fairytales it incorporates gives it an element of familiarity, as well. It has a traditional fairytale style story as the main plot (princess, evil villain, prince, etc etc) but has enough of a twist to keep you hooked~
Indeed, provided the right developers get their hands on it...and they don't change more than is necessary. Some tweaks to the gameplay so it isn't just a LoK game with a GoW engine, a solid story that fits in with the rest of the games and, of course, the same voice actors. I'm not going to abandon all hope until at least 11 years have passed...after all, American McGee's Alice got a sequel after around that amount of time. It wasn't as good as it should have been, but it was still fairly good. xD

Date: 2012-01-21 11:23 am (UTC)Oh, those outtakes are fantastic! :D Makes me want to re-watch Noein actually.
I'm told with Death note that watching the first season is a good idea, then to stop? Apparently the second season goes a bit odd. Same for Black Butler though.
Thanks for the recs! A couple of friends and I just started watching Gurren Lagann last night actually - I think we're five episodes in? You can tell they changed director after episode 3 though, it changes subtly in art style and feel.
Ref voice actors for LoK, sadly, Tony Jay's dead now, so no more Elder God with the same voice. :( Deus Ex, the latest one is a great new addition to an old series too. Like, really good. Conveniently forgetting the second one ever existed of course. ;)

Date: 2012-01-21 09:28 pm (UTC)Ohh, the Rebuild movies? I watched those last month, at a friend's insistence...I'd not seen Evangelion before. The first one was good, the second...not so much. It was more of a set-up for the third and fourth, I felt. But I adore Asuka already. xD
"I'm going to have my way with the both of you, and then I'm going to do the dog."
...gets me every time. xD
I'm due a re-watch of Noein as well...just as soon as I finish Eureka Seven. I've got a nice little backlog of anime to watch now, but...I can make room for it <3
YES! Watching the second season of Death Note is a baaad idea...although Mikami is absolutely hilarious. He takes the ridiculousness of the drama to a whole new level. Although, like a lot of dramatic anime, Death Note is better watched in sub if you want to take it seriously. Hearing Light say "I'll take a potato chip...AND EAT IT!" in dub absolutely destroys the gravity of the situation. xD
You're welcome~
Five episodes in...you're three episodes off the turning point of the series! =O
Agh, I'd forgotten all about that...although, that said, I'd hope they could get a close approximation to his voice if they ever decided to make another game. I doubt his replacement would be very well-received, though...but then, better a not-as-good replacement than skipping out on him entirely, no?
...at the very least, I want them to re-release the rest of the games on the Playstation Network. I'm getting nostalgic for them...particularly Blood Omen 2. xD
I've not actually played a Deus Ex game...not yet, anyway. The newest one has dropped dramatically in price, increasing my chances of buying it, but my game schedule for this year...ohhhh boy. xD
